At least one shot was fired at gardaí after raiders tried to remove the ATM from the Ulster Bank in Enniscorthy shortly after 3.30am.

At least three raiders were involved.

A loud bang – possibly a small explosion – was heard as the raiders were trying to get the cash machine out of the bank.

Two uniformed gardaí from Enniscorthy Garda Station arrived on the scene and confronted the raiders.

At least one shot was fired by the raiders but neither garda was injured.

The raiders left the scene in a dark-coloured car in the direction of New Ross.
