Racing Métro coach Laurent Labit has revealed that Jonathan Sexton will miss ten days to six weeks of rugby due to his thumb injury.
Speaking at a press conference in Paris, ahead of Racing’s home clash with Castres on 1 March, Labit spoke about the injury to the assembled press, stating that the out-half had suffered ligament damage in Ireland’s 13-10 defeat to England at Twickenham.
Joe Schmidt and the Ireland team had earlier this week given an indication that Sexton would be fit to face Italy in the RBS 6 Nations on 8 March; however, Labit’s comments have now thrown this statement into doubt.
If the injury takes ten days to heal Sexton should be able to train on Tuesday 4 March, four days before Ireland’s clash with Italy at Aviva Stadium.
