Tax settlements worth €31.8m were made with Revenue in the three months to the end of June
A retired company director from Co Fermanagh has topped Revenue’s latest tax defaulters list with a €13.54m charge relating to a bogus non-resident account and under-declaration of income tax.
Anthony Cafferkey of Lisnarick Rd in Irvinestown paid more than €6m in tax with interest of €3.26m applied. Revenue also levied a €4.23m penalty following its investigation.
The amount is far in excess of any other on the list, with the next biggest being a €1.95m charge levied on a company director based in Co Dublin.
Fergus O’Brien, with an address in Auburn Drive in Killiney, was found to have made a VAT and PAYE/PRSI under-declaration to the value of €742,200 following a Revenue audit.
He was charged interest of €652,870 with a fine of €556,690 also applied.
Meanwhile, a hair salon in Dublin 2 which is now in liquidation, paid €1.31m in taxes owed, interest and penalties.
HSE Salon Ltd, which is now in liquidation, made the payment in respect of under-declaration of VAT, PAYE and PRSI.
Meanwhile, the owner of the Mizzoni’s fast food chain – Gerardo Mizzoni, of Millrace Walk, Saggart, Co Dublin – was fined €32,000 for failing to lodge VAT returns, according to the list.
It includes 117 settlements with individuals and firms, 59 of which were for amounts exceeding €100,000.
