Several people, including a number of children, were rescued from a fire at an apartment block in Dublin city centre overnight.

The fire broke out at a building at Thomas Court, off Thomas Street around 3.30am this morning.

David Kavanagh District Officer Dublin Fire Brigade said that a couple of people were trapped.

Firemen had to rescue people from the second floor by ladder.
