A new poll has shown that Sinn Féin remain in contention to win a seat in the three European Parliament constituencies.

Some 500 people were interviewed in each of the three constituencies between Monday and Thursday last for the Red C poll for the Sunday Business Post, which also revealed Fine Gael support holding steady.

The polls shows Labour’s Phil Prendergast, who earlier this week said her party leader Eamon Gilmore should resign, is up to 9%, from 5% a week ago.

In the South constituency Brian Crowley leads the way, while Fine Gael’s Sean Kelly is second on 18% well ahead of his party colleagues.

Sinn Féin’s remain in hunt for one of the four seats on 14%.

In Midlands North West Fine Gael’s Mairead McGuinness and Independent Marian Harkin both have 16% support.

Another Independent Luke Ming Flanagan is backed by 14% of voters, as is Sinn Féin’s Matt Carthy.

The Fianna Fáil candidates have 17% between them.

In Dublin, Fine Gael’s Brian Hayes is in front on 18%.

A number of candidates then are closely bunched together with Sinn Féin’s Lynn Boylan on 15%, while Fianna Fáil’s Mary Fitzpatrick and Labour’s Emer Costello are on 13%.

The Green Party’s Eamon Ryan is on 12%, with Independent Nessa Childers a further two points back, in what looks set to be a close-run contest.
