Joe Schmidt will name his team to face Wales in Saturday’s RBS 6 Nations clash at lunchtime today.

He is expected to confirm Paul O’Connell’s return to the starting side after the squad captain missed Sunday’s victory over Scotland with a chest infection.

Devin Toner is expected to retain his starting place with Dan Tuohy dropping to the bench despite a highly effective outing on Sunday.

The Ireland head coach will reveal his decision in the centre, where Gordon D’Arcy is vying for selection against Luke Marshall. A stomach bug played a role in the decision to leave D’Arcy out last week but he could well be named to start alongside Brian O’Driscoll in Test rugby’s most experienced centre partnership.

Andrew Trimble, a surprise selection against the Scots, is also set to pay again in an otherwise unchanged team.
