The total number of new cars licensed rose by almost 26% to 62,280 in the year to end of June
New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the number of new cars licensed for the first time rose by 2.9% to 3,390 in June compared to the same time last year.
The CSO said that in the year to the end of June, the total number of new cars licensed rose by almost 26% to 62,280.
The figures also reveal that the number of new goods vehicles licensed in June rose by almost 48% to 1,101. New goods vehicles sales are up 44% in the year to the end of June.
The most popular brand of new car licensed last month was Volkswagen, followed by Ford, Toyota, and Renault.
Car sales are expected to rise strongly in July as new 142 number plates begin to be issued.
