Gardaí are treating as suspicious the discovery of a man’s body in a drain in Co Offaly.
The body which is believed to be that of a 47-year-old local man was discovered this morning.
State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy is due at the scene shortly but it is believed the victim, who was only recently released from prison, suffered a violent death.
A nearby caravan in which he was believed to live was also found burned out.
The body was discovered in a drain at Kilbride, Clara at around a 8.45am.
The body has not been positively identified but its believed to be that of a local man who was only released from prison last month after serving a three-year sentence for false imprisonment.
He has convictions for a number of offences including assault and had been under investigation but not prosecuted for alleged sex offences
