A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a father-of-two in Dublin four years ago.

Eugene Cullen, of Derry Road, Crumlin had pleaded not guilty to murdering Seamus O’Byrne at Tymon Park North, Tallaght on 13 March 2009.

The jury at the Central Criminal Court found him guilty after deliberating for almost four hours.

Mr O’Byrne, 27, was shot dead by a hooded gunman outside his home in front of his girlfriend and child.

His girlfriend, Sharon Rattigan, tackled the assassin and was shot in the leg while seizing the gun from him.

The jury agreed that Cullen was not the gunman, but one of four men involved in plotting, planning and executing the gangland murder.

He is the second man to be convicted of the murder.
