Man dies in Drogheda stabbing

A 30-year-old man has died following a stabbing in Drogheda, Co Louth.

The incident happened in the Rathmullen Park area at about 1.30am.

Gardaí found the man in a collapsed state with a number of stab wounds in the front garden of a house.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where he was later pronounced dead.

A post mortem examination is being carried out this afternoon by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis.

Gardaí say they expect their investigation will officially be one of murder once the results of the post mortem are known.

A 40-year-old woman arrested in connection with the investigation is being held at Drogheda Garda Station.
