A man who was seriously injured in a shooting incident in Lucan in Dublin last night has died.

The 46-year-old was shot at Abbeywood Court shortly before 10.30pm.

He was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was later pronounced dead.

The office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post mortem is due to be carried out later today.

Gardaí have sealed off a scene in the Earlsforth Estate in Lucan where a car was found on fire shortly after the shooting.

They have appealed for anyone with information or who may have seen the car at either scene to contact Lucan Garda Station on 01 6667300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
