The SEC said the error would be taken into account when marking the exams
The Irish language version of a Maths paper sat by Leaving Certificate students last Friday contained a typographical error that may have caused confusion for some candidates.
In question 6 (b) of the Irish language Higher Level Maths Paper 1, an ‘x’ appeared where there should have been an ‘a’.
Approximately 700 students, or 4% of the total, were entered for the Irish version of the paper.
They also had access to the English version of the paper, which did not contain the error.
The State Examinations Commission said the impact of this error on candidates’ answering would be taken into account by the Chief Examiner when finalising the marking scheme for the examination.
Part 6 (b) is worth less than 1% of the total exam.
