Investigation after two people shot in Offaly

An investigation is being carried out after a man and a woman were injured in a shooting at a house in Tullamore, Co Offaly tonight.

The incident happened as the 32-year-old man was returning to his home at Cluain Darragh with his seven-year-old son shortly after 7pm.

As he approached the front door of the house, a car pulled up and a gunman ran from the car and fired at least three shots.

The man and his partner sustained what are believed to have been minor injuries.

They were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore for treatment.

The gunman ran from the house and jumped back into the car which drove off.

The car was later found abandoned and burnt out four miles away in Durrow.
