US businessman Donald Trump has bought the Doonbeg Lodge and Golf Club in Co Clare. Media reports put the sale price at around €15m.
Luxury resort developer Kiawah Partners appointed Ernst & Young’s Luke Charleton and David Hughes as receivers to the property last month.
At the time they said they were confident a sale would be completed within six weeks.
Mr Trump already owns a suite of 15 golf resorts around the world. In a statement, he said the Co Clare resort would be renamed Trump International Golf Links, Ireland.
“There was a tremendous level of interest from domestic and international investors in this property,” commented Luke Charleton.
“It is particularly pleasing to have sold this prestigious property to the Trump Organisation who have the vision and resources to take what is an internationally renowned tourism resort to its next stage,” he added.
“Doonbeg is an already terrific property that we will make even better – it will be soon be an unparalleled resort destination with the highest standards of luxury,” Mr Trump said.
