Manchester City’s Barclays Premier League clash with Sunderland has been postponed.
The match has fallen victim to the severe weather which has battered the north west.
A tweet from the Greater Manchester Police confirmed: “GAME OFF – Manchester City’s V Sunderland has been called off because conditions are deemed ‘unsafe’. #MCFC”
City captain Vincent Kompany also announced the game had been called off via his Twitter feed.
Kompany tweeted: “Game’s called off! Make sure you get yourselves home and be safe, weather is terrible! #mcfc”
City might have had the opportunity to move back to the top of the Barclays Premier League had the game gone ahead and other results gone in their favour.
The game will now have to be rearranged for later in the season, creating extra fixture congestion for a side still competing in four competitions.
