An eight-year-old boy has died after being injured in a road collision in Co Clare yesterday evening.

Ultan Hayes was seriously injured when the quad bike he was travelling on with his father hit a stone wall.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash.

The boy was removed to Limerick Regional Hospital with serious injuries and later transferred to Temple Street Children’s Hospital where he died earlier this evening.

The father, aged 41, was also injured in the incident, but not seriously. 

The circumstances surrounding the collision, which occurred at 9.10pm in Whitegate, Co Clare are being investigated by gardaí.
