The body of a 35-year-old man has been found at Carnalogue, Louth Village, Co Louth.

The man was found at the side of a road by a passer-by at around 4.40am.

Paramedics were called to the scene but the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

It is believed the man sustained injuries to his head and leg.

The body was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where a post-mortem examination will take place.

Gardaí in Ardee are appealing for witnesses.

Anyone who travelled the road at Carnalogue between 4.15am and 4.45am to contact Ardee Garda Station at 041 6853222, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
